Orchid Isle Tutoring

After 25 years helping students in East Hawaii, Orchid Isle Tutoring now offers a Reading and Language Arts curriculum designed for Home-Schooling. The same proven and successful methods that have worked for two generations of children at our tutoring center are now available for use in your home-schooling program.

Ideal for beginning and / or struggling readers, Orchid Isle Tutoring’s Program is

an easy to use system for one on one tutoring and small group instruction.

· 49 Colorful and appealing lessons, with complete tutor instructions, provide a structured and sequential pattern comfortable for both the tutor and the student.

· Comprehensive and systematic review of previously taught material builds confidence through success.

· Our program teaches students to read and spell with Phonics, common Sight Words, basic Punctuation, and basic Grammar.

· Phrase and Sentence practice builds familiarity and reading fluency.

· Our one to two year program is based on three to five weekly tutoring sessions.

· Our methods easily adapt to different learning styles and learning challenges.

You do not have to be an experienced educator to successfully teach your child with Orchid Isle Tutoring’s Reading and Language Arts Program.

· Step by step, detailed instructions minimize lesson preparation time and make it easy to follow and track lesson progression.

· 6 hours of direct training, as well as ongoing e-mail support and web site resources, give you, the tutor, confidence in your ability to teach your child. Your training consists of small group direct instruction on using the system and follow-up lesson observation. Web site and e-mail support will answer questions about using the system and help you develop and enhance your skills as a home-school tutor.

· Optional supplemental lessons and materials can save you time and energy.

Orchid Isle Tutoring’s Reading and Language Arts Program consists of 49 lessons intended to be used 3 to 5 times per week for one to two hours each day. Lessons introduce Phonic Decoding and Encoding, Sight Words, Vocabulary, Punctuation and Grammar in a logical and easy to follow progression. Each lesson includes systematic review of previously taught material while introducing new material. Tutor’s Notes provide all the information needed for each lesson. Our comprehensive Tutor’s Guide gives step by step instructions, detailed explanations, and rational for modes and methodologies used in the program. An easy to read, single sheet “Quick Guide” helps the new tutor stay on track with the pattern of each lesson.

The LKM Reading and Language Arts Teaching Program can be purchased in partial sets of printed lessons, or as a complete printed system at a discount. Earlier lessons are shorter and less complex than later lessons, so prices for the lesson sets differ slightly. Lessons 13, 14, and 20 are double lessons, making that set the most expensive.
